What are Fastbraces?
The days of having to wait a year, two years, or even more for a straighter smile are long gone. New orthodontic technology known as Fastbraces provides dental patients all with a safe, fast, and affordable way to improve their smile. Hancock Village Dental, located in Clermont, Florida, is excited to offer Fastbraces as a treatment option for patients who want a more radiant, dazzling smile.
Think that Fastbraces might help you get that smile you have always dreamed about but want to know more? We will take a closer look at Fastbraces and answer some of the most frequently asked questions about this new orthodontic technology.
How Do Fastbraces Work?
The basic concept of Fastbraces is similar traditional braces – shift and move your teeth into a better alignment. However, unlike traditional braces where you have an entire set of brackets placed on the teeth, wires threaded throughout your mouth, and rubber bands placed on the sides, Fastbraces uses a simplified system.
With Fastbraces, specially created triangular brackets are placed onto the teeth. The triangular bracket is attached to a square-like wire that reaches down to the root of your teeth. It is this square-like wire that makes the system different from traditional braces.
When teeth are moved and shifted with traditional braces it is typically done in two steps. First, the top portions of the teeth are moved and then the roots of the teeth are moved. This is why it takes so long. With Fastbraces the entire two-step process is turned into a single process. Instead of moving the tooth in two separate steps, Fastbraces moves both the top/crown and the root of the tooth. Moving the whole tooth allows dentists and orthodontists to speed up treatment time and get you a straighter smile without having to wait years.
What are Some of the Benefits of Fastbraces?
The dramatic reduction in the length of treatment is a huge benefit of Fastbraces, but it isn’t the only benefit. There are several other benefits that make Fastbraces a good treatment choice for many orthodontic patients.
Some of the other benefits of Fastbraces include:
- Preserves your natural bite so you don’t have to be uncomfortable as you relearn to talk or chew with your newly aligned teeth
- No extractions – almost all patients can get Fastbraces without needing to have teeth extracted
- Only one wire is used which reduces discomfort and prevents you from looking like you have a bulky orthodontic system
- Treatment can be completed in half the time of traditional braces – some people can have a straighter smile in 20 weeks
- Jaw bone reabsorbs the root of the teeth faster which leads to quick stabilization of your teeth in their new position
- Dramatic reduction in pain
Do You Have to Wear a Retainer with Fastbraces?
A common concern about Fastbraces is that the fast movement of the teeth results in you having to wear a retainer for a lengthy period of time. Luckily, that doesn’t happen with Fastbraces. In fact, the exact opposite happens.
After the wire and brackets are removed, you will be given a customized retainer that you will have to wear. Unfortunately, this is unavoidable as your teeth will shift if a retainer is not worn. However, there is good news. When you had Fastbraces you don’t have to wear a retainer as long as you do with traditional braces.
Patients who underwent treatment with traditional braces are required to wear a retainer for 22 hours a day for several months after treatment. Most patients who had Fastbraces only need to wear a retainer for 10 to 15 minutes every day. Some former Fastbraces patients feel more comfortable wearing their retainer at night, but it is often a personal preference and not required to help them maintain their smile.
